During the last quarter I‘ve taken over 60 different anglers fishing. Many of these trips were guided trips that I was hired for; however, I went out with several pros. During each of these trips I get the opportunity to teach these anglers about fishing and various products. This face to face is a great opportunity to market my sponsors and their products. One on one, face to face, even though it is micro marketing in the long run it will mean more sales. An educated buyer who has the knowledge has a better ability to inform his friends and colleges.
July I volunteered for the Pro Teen Rally on the Ca Delta, paired up with teen Matt Blanco we had a tough bite but still managed to catch a number of fish and had a great showing. This is a good event and a good cause to support not only for the angler but his sponsors. During the event I also donated 50 Bass Angler’s Guide magazines to the teen anglers.
The purpose of the Pro-Teen event is to introduce teenage kids to alternative activities, in our particular case it is tournament bass fishing. It is a chance for a kid, who otherwise does not have the opportunity, to enter and participate in a “pro style” tournament event. http://www.westernbass.com/dotcom/proteen
July 19th I was a guest on the Ultimate Bass radio show with Kent Brown discussing the upcoming seminar at Gone Fishing marine.
This coming Tuesday, July 21st, Kent Brown brings us one of GFM’s own Team members, Mark Lassagne! Mark is a California born and bred Skeeter pro, and second to none in Delta fishing. With the Snag Proof Open frog tournament just around the corner, Mark will share with us some of the knowledge he has……….. See the story here: http://gonefishinteam.blogspot.com/2009/07/ultimate-bass-university-this-tuesday.html
I think the seminar went well, we had about 30 people and I was able to discuss various topics that included rods, reels, line, sunglasses and a host of baits.

Just after the HBC event I gave a how to fish the Delta seminar to the Future Pro Anglers at the Hook Line & Sinker tackle shop in Oakley, CA. At the seminar I had a table to display the magazine and also to talk to angler about various bait and patterns.
I worked with Arizona state college angler Joey Jarrell showing him the ways of the California Delta helping him to a top five finish in the FLW College fishing regional event and qualifying for the national championship.
For the third issue of 2009 Bass Angler’s Guide I wrote and published a story on bass fishing in Kauai, Hawaii.
September I worked as the camera boat for the FLW College fishing event. This was a great opportunity to meet and work with the hose and the top producers of the TV show. During the shoot my cameraman Jimmy Dunn had me ask the anglers questions prompting them for good story content. After the show was over Jimmy recommend me to be a producer of a bass show for their production company.
October I competed in the televised West Coast Bass pro am on the CA Delta. Being a well know angler on the Delta; I was able to obtain some good air time both days of the event. I finished 4th in the event and 11th over all for the year. The show will be aired on Angler West television. See www.anglerwesttv.com/shows.html for more information on the show.
November 2nd I was interviewed by Bass Edge for their weekly pod cast on falling water. http://bassedge.com/media/show/700
After finishing 18th overall for the year in the FLW Stren series I qualified for the championship Nov 5-7th in Alabama; however, I was unable to attend this event due to an invitation to the Black Bass World Championship for team USA.
Lake El Cuchillo Mexico fishing against ten other countries team USA consisting of: Gary and Derek Yamamoto, Todd Faircloth, Tom Mann, Charlie Weyer and Mark Lassagne placed first in this Olympic style event. See more about the event here: http://www.insideline.net/weeklynews/2009/09-1111.html and http://www.wonews.com/t-MainlandMexicoReport_wade_111709.aspx

Quarterly Update
March 2009 to May 2009
My angling goal is become a better angler. I am working diligent to accomplish this goal by analyzing my performance each and every time I go out whether for competition or not. I am also studying fishing at every opportunity, you never stop learning.
The picture above is a 13lb bass I caught in April.
This quarter started off tough for tournaments. Fishing the Stren event at Clear Lake even though I caught 30 pounds of fish I finished in the middle of the pack 77th out of 150 anglers. After the event at on Saturday I participated in the college fishing program put on by FLW and took out two students from Boise state university. The college fishing program is a new concept put on by FLW and it has been very well received. To find out more about the college fishing program check out this site: www.collegefishing.com
Note from the Rodney at Damiki: Thank you!! I talked to Kevin today and he was impressed with your help on the College event and looks forward to working with you again (if you are not in the top 10) real soon. Your positive attitude Reflect greatly on Damiki and all your sponsors in a very good way. Thank you again Mark for the work you did at Clear Lake.
Regards, Kevin Hunt Tournament Director National Guard FLW College Fishing Thank you…this program would not be possible without you so we are very grateful for you help.
My second event was much better, the West Coast Bass at Lake Oroville I finished 7th in which I received some TV air time on their show. I also performed a commercial during the show for the Bass Angler’s Guide magazine and the West Coast Bass events.
On to Arizona the Stren Roosevelt event April 16th to 18th I finished 66th up a little from the Clear lake finish. After this event I also participated in the college fishing event.
May 14th to 16th Lake Oroville Stren event I figured out the fish a little better and ended up in 39th place. Also after this event I participated in the college fishing.
May 28th to 29th Ca Delta Stren event I’m finally getting it figured out and finished 19th. Then after this event I participated in college fishing.
The year is finished for the FLW Stren series and I finished 18th in points overall which qualifies me for the 2009 Stren Championship at Pickwick lake.
During the last few months I performed over 20 guide trips showing various anglers how to fish the CA Delta. Also after several of the trips I took the clients to the local tackle shop (Hook Line & Sinker) to pick up the products that we found productive during the day. The Hook, Line & Sinker’s owner Gene Buchholz was nice enough to give my clients a 10% discount on their purchases, which made for a win-win situation.
On May 7th I performed a seminar on bass fishing at Sportsman’s Warehouse in Rocklin, School of Bass for approximately 40 anglers. The seminar went very well and I was able to showcase several products during the presentation including Damiki rods and crankbaits.
In March I wrote an article for American Bass a Texas magazine highlighting Chatter baits in the article I talked about Revenge’s vibrator and also send in a picture of the bait.
In April I wrote a destination article about bass fishing in Hawaii for the Bass Angler’s Guide.
Also in April I established a relationship with www.calbassin.com where they provide a section for the Bass Angler’s Guide to post articles. I sent in several including one of my own called, Play the Odds. I will have several more new articles up soon.
I have a dedicated page on www.californiafishingforums.com for anglers to ask me questions about the CA Delta and bass fishing.
In the last week I established a relationship with www.wafish.com an up and coming web site in Washington where we will also be able to post articles.
I also have a relationship with www.outdoorproshop.com or monster bass tackle where they post articles.
In March and April I was a guest on Shake rattle & Troll in Arizona along with Rod & Reel Radio in Southern Cal.
Over the past few months I have visited about 20 local tackle dealers to reaffirm relationships show sponsors products and to promote the Bass Angler’s Guide magazine.
Coming up: I am fishing the Berkley Big Bass event on June 6th and 7th and plan on competing in the FLW series event on the Delta in September. More articles I have several article in the hopper to be written and also others to be posted on the internet. I plan on performing several seminars at local tackle shops and for Bay Side Adventure Sports. There are also a couple of TV opportunities I will work on being a part of. I have already talked with a few radio stations to have me on as a guest.
Quarterly Updates
Nov 2008- Feb-2009
These are tough economic times if you stop marketing you’ll get run over or run out of business. My philosophy is; if the market is shrinking you need to be creative and obtain more market share just to get the same results. So don’t let it pass you by… go get it!
November: After finishing 14 in points for the year on the FLW Stren tour I qualified and fished the Stren Championship at Table Rock Lake in Missouri. Even though I didn’t do well in the event I took advantage of being on the road and stopped by several tackle shops spending some time marketing western products. In the middle of November I was a guest on Wishin I Was Fishin radio show in Arizona. Working with West Marine I secured placement of the Bass Angler’s Guide into the all the western stores. Also my marketing efforts were rewarded with magazine placement into Barns& Noble, Borders and 10 new regional tackle shops.
December I wrote an article for American Bass Anglers magazine (20k distribution) in Texas the article was about why some anglers catch fish and others don’t. I was a guest on Ultimate bass radio and performed a seminar for the Delta Bass Club on how to catch winter bass. During the seminar I brought a Damiki rod and several Damiki crankbaits to talk about. During December I called on 15 local tackle shops in my area. In addition, I called and talked to another 50 more reaffirming a good relationship between them and myself.
January I spoke on several more radio shows including Shake Rattle & Troll. I worked the media day at Lake Pardee as a pro angler and also as a press person and was one of the very to catch a fish. Working with Michael Murphy I wrote an article on crawfish for the April issue of the Bass Angler’s Guide. Talking with Larry Vivano and Justin Wolf we tentatively came to an agreement for me to work with the film crew covering the West Coast Bass tournaments. Unfortunately I will miss their first event but hope to get squared away by the next. I worked at both ISE shows San Mateo and Sacramento reaffirming relationships with various angler, dealers and manufactures. While working at the show I established a relationship with Michael Baggett of Bay Side Adventure Sports www.baysideadventuresports.com to perform seminars and classes to their over 700 members.
February I established a relationship with www.californiafishingforums.com in the Ask Them Yourself area as the Delta expert. I answered several questions and then they had some server problems losing all the data, now it’s back running again. Last week I talked on Stan Vandenberg’s radio show in LA. I also wrote an article for American Bass on spring time bass fishing for their next issue. In the article I included Damiki, IMA, Optimum, Reaction Strike, Luhr Jensen, Zoom and Gambler products. During the month I have been on several fishing trips displayi9ng product and getting ready for upcoming events. I created a new guide brochure upon completion I will market it to all the local tackle shops.
March starts the Stren season the first event is at Clear Lake march 5-7th . At each Stren even if I don’t make the Saturday cut I have committed to taking their college team out fishing. Starting in March I will be with working more with www.tackletour.com writing product reviews and also you will see more press releases.
On a regular basis I converse with several tackle shops insuring a good relationship. I post articles and comments on this and various other Web sites and include your products or services whenever possible. Try a search for Mark Lassagne and see what you get?
